Missouri Arts Council and the Poet

I just wanted to spread the if I could.  I know this is late, but it is a worthwhile cause.

A competition filled with drama, passion, and poetry—not “The Hunger Games,” but the Missouri State Finals of Poetry Out Loud, and you’re invited. The 10 finalists from Missouri’s regional competitions gather this Wednesday, March 21 at 10 a.m. in Jefferson City at the Etta & Joseph Miller Performing Arts Center to recite poems by Gwendolyn Brooks, Lewis Carroll, Jimmy Santiago Baca, Walt Whitman, and many more. First Lady Georganne Wheeler Nixon presides. Among the honored guests will be Missouri Poet Laureate David Clewell and Stephen Young of the Poetry Foundation, which with the National Endowment for the Arts started Poetry Out Loud in 2006. Stay tuned to find out the Missouri winner who’ll go on to the national finals May 13-15!

I hope some of you can make it out.  Poetry helps confidence, speaking ability, speech formation, vocabulary, and it promotes the spoken word.

Peace, Love, and Freedom.
