Artist Steven Wilson and the symbolism of his new work "If I defend thee...

Here is a symbolist work entitled "If I defend thee, then battle shall be my breast, and war shall be thy womb".  The materials used are ceramic stucco, white flake, and acrylic.  It is a statement about war is peace or perpetual war.  As we complain about a society that is too violent; we appear to be somewhat blind as to where such a lesson could've been taught.

It is 40" x 30" on canvas.  I prefer to call it symbolism rather than expressionism.  It is up to the viewer.
