Lewis and Clark celebration set in Jefferson city for Tuesday June 4th

I would like to invite all to the 5th anniversary of the monument
on Tuesday June 4th from 6:30-7:30pm
at the monument on the capitol grounds.  If it is raining it will be in the
rotunda.

Here is some history of how the Jefferson city art club played a role in the monument.

Dottie Dallmeyer an Art Club member and a Task Force member approached Janet Maurer downtown at the Farmers Market. She asked if we still had the money we
raised for the Jazz Fest posters back in 1992 and 1993 for the purpose of
placing art statues downtown similar to the way it is done in Lawrence, KS.Janet Maurer said we did and she then went on to explain the wish to place a monument
on the capitol grounds to tell the story of the Lewis and Clark Journey to
future generations. Janet then met Sally Sprague, the chairman of the Special
Project. The monument was her vision. Sally sadly died a year ago in April.

The Art Club donated the funds to them at the September 2003 100th birthday
party (year long party. The maquette was unveiled in Spring of 2004 and then
in June 4,2004 presented them with the check as a gift to the Lewis and
Clark Task Force, the Jefferson City Parks and Rec Foundation and Sabra Tull
Meyer at the Runge Center.

This maquette was used to be a visual during the fundraising campaign for
the monument. It was a long journey but it did get completed and has been a
beautiful assest to the city and state capitol grounds.  The maquette is on
display in the lobby of the Parks and Rec office on Monroe St. stop in
anytime to see it.  It is a one of a kind as a few changes where made from
the maquette to the monument itself.  The Task Force is very thankful for
the Art Club's gracious gift at that time.

Exact dates may vary!!
