Artist Steven Wilson and the expressionism of the Navajo woman

 On my last trip to New Mexico I took the back way.  In the fall there are many festivals and on this occasion I came across a group of Navajo women cleaning up the grounds.  I was North of Gallup.  She was standing alone and looking out onto the empty fields.  I don't know why, but I pulled over and took a quick sketch. 

The title is Lewranti.  It is 36 x 24 on canvas.  The materials used are ceramic stucco, resin sand, acrylic, and white flake.

64th Navajo Festival of Arts and Culture

This Saturday and Sunday, August 3-4, from 9am to 5pm, we will be celebrating the creativity of the Navajo Arts and Culture Festival.  It will be held at the Museum of Northern Arizona located at 3101 North Valley Road.  The ticket prices are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $7 for students with IDs, and $6 for American Indians.  For ages 10-17 it is $5 and the festival is free to members.
